Spic Macay Convention 23-Aug-2024

Unison World School is hosting a state convention by SPIC MACAY in Uttarakhand, Dehradun, from 22nd, 23rd , to 24th August 2024. The aim of this program is to promote and encourage the Indian culture and classical music. The event features many renowned artists from across India and Uttarakhand, including recipients of prestigious honours like the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. On the second day, August 23, the event was graced by the presence of Ms. Arshiya Sethi who is a writer, educationist, and an art connoisseur, Pandit Deepak Maharaj, Kathak dancer, and Shri Prem Hindwal, mask dancer, contributed significantly to the day's program. The second day began with an energetic yoga session. During one segment of the event, students were trained in various art forms by distinguished gurus. The second half of the day featured an inspiring talk by Ms. Arshiya Sethi on ‘What Art Can Do for Us?’ Ms. Sethi emphasized that art has the power to bring us closer to our spiritual selves. She also highlighted the importance of having a keen eye for all art forms, suggesting that to fully understand one form of art, one must also appreciate other art forms to get there. She concluded her talk by highlighting the importance of the stories in shaping people's thought process. She urged that instead of narrating the stories which are not relevant in today’s time, the real stories of great individuals must be narrated so that the younger generation is inspired to bring about a positive change in the society. The school had the honor of hosting the Minister of Central State, Honorable Dr. Vinay Ruhela, as the ‘Guest of Honour’. Dr. Ruhela also serves as the Vice President of the State Disaster Management Uttarakhand. In his speech, he praised the efforts of SPIC MACAY and congratulated the school Principal, Dr. Mona Khanna, for her dedication and hard work she is putting for the cause. In the next segment of the program, renowned Kathak dancer Pandit Deepak Maharaj delivered a captivating performance of soul-stirring dance. The highlight of the day was the mask dance, with Shri Prem Hindwal and his group delivering a compelling performance. In the fourth segment, Pandit Omkar Dadarkar showcased Hindustani singing, enchanting the audience with a variety of ragas. After which Pt. Kushaldas presented an spellbinding Sitar performance, bringing the musical evening to an end.
