Navy Foundation Dehradun Chapter23-Oct-2024

On 23rd October, Unison World School proudly hosted an engaging event organized by the Navy Foundation Dehradun Chapter in the Multi-Purpose Hall. Vice Admiral Anurag Thapliyal, delivered an insightful speech about Navy, following which he introduced Sub-Lieutenant Shreya Joshi, who provided the audience with intriguing information about India’s maritime history, including the country’s longstanding shipbuilding heritage, its economic reliance on the seas, and essential sectors like offshore oil production and marine fisheries. She emphasized the crucial role of maritime security in safeguarding national prosperity and detailed how the Indian Navy protects the country’s extensive coastline and vital interests. Next, Commander Monika Sharma took the stage and delivered a captivating talk on the opportunities within the Indian Navy. Starting with the powerful statement, "Navy is a calling," she highlighted the deep sense of duty and honour tied to a naval career. She also outlined the Navy’s recruitment process, explaining the qualities they seek in candidates and how one can apply for different commissions. She further offered a glimpse into the life of a Navy officer, discussing roles and responsibilities aboard a ship and within various naval domains, including surface warfare, aviation, and submarines. Following these insightful talks, the Navy Band was warmly welcomed with bouquets and invited to perform. The band, comprising 21 skilled musicians playing instruments such as the flute, clarinet, saxophones, guitars, keyboard, octapad, trombone, euphonium, percussion, and French horn, showcased their immense talent. Led by expert Musician Officers, the band performed a delightful repertoire that included Uttarakhand’s folk songs, along with a mix of English and Hindi melodies, both old and new. The audience especially enjoyed their tribute to Raj Kapoor, as well as the patriotic tunes that resonated throughout the hall. Commodore Gautam Negi, Secretary of the Navy Foundation Dehradun Chapter, expressed his gratitude to the school’s Principal, Dr. Mona Khanna, for hosting the event. He also extended thanks to Mr. Mittal, Coordinator from Virasat, for his contributions. A token of appreciation was then presented to Dr. Khanna, acknowledging the school's support in facilitating this interaction with the students. In her closing address, Dr. Mona Khanna expressed her sincere thanks to the entire naval team, including the lady officers, and everyone involved in making the event a success. This memorable event offered a perfect blend of knowledge, music, and inspiration, educating the audience about the Navy's vital role in securing the nation and the exciting career opportunities it offers to young aspirants.
